Welcome to Thomas Samuel Cotton

A blog about our son's life, illness and death

Ten years ago, we eagerly anticipated and celebrated the birth of our healthy third child, Thomas. Our world fell apart when, just one week after Thomas was born, we were told that the brain damage that Thomas had suffered as a result of a meningitis infection, caused by Group B Strep bacteria, was terminal. When Thomas was 30 days old, he died in my arms, snuggled in our bed between Jason and me.

The journey we have travelled since then has been so difficult, but with the love and support of my incredible husband, amazing family and dedicated friends, we have managed to navigate my way (although many times, we have barely been able to drag myself), along a path we would wish upon no-one.

Our blog is dedicated to sharing details about his life, illness, and death, as well as the impact it has made on our lives and our journey with grief. We hope that by sharing our story, we can help others who are going through similar experiences.

In honor of his tenth birthday, I will be running the London Marathon in April 2024 to raise money for the charity, Meningitis Now. You can donate at:
